Invisalign braces provide a teeth-straightening option that is less visible and less obtrusive than traditional metal braces. At Family Dentistry of Stuart we work with our patients to help them understand Invisalign and determine if it’s right for them.
As the premier Stuart Dentist for Invisalign braces, we are happy to share with you some of the basic facts about Invisalign.
What are Invisalign Braces?
Invisalign braces are an orthodontic treatment comprised of “aligners” which are clear plastic trays that are customized specifically for your teeth so that they straighten out your teeth gently over time.
Perhaps the most unique and appealing feature of invisalign braces is that they are barely visible since the trays (a series of clear aligners) are made from a nearly transparent thermoplastic material.
What are some benefits of invisalign braces compared to traditional braces? Does Invisalign work?Invisalign braces are typically less painful than traditional braces, and because they are clear they are hardly visible when worn and many people may not even notice that you are wearing them.
Another appealing feature of Invisalign braces is that they can be easily removed, which makes brushing and flossing your teeth much easier than with traditional braces which may catch bits of food that can cause tooth decay.
How do Invisalign braces work?
Once you have decided that you want Invisalign, the dentist will use 3-D computer-imaging technology to create a treatment plan that will track your progress from the current position of your teeth to the desired final position of your teeth.
Once the Invisalign treatment plan has been prepared, then the series of customized clear plastic trays (aligners) are made specifically for your mouth and teeth. Every two weeks you will change to a new aligner as your teeth slowly move into their desired positions.
Stuart Dentist Invisalign: How long does the Invisalign orthodontic treatment take to complete?
A typical time for completion of the Invisalign treatment is about one year. This may vary considerably depending upon the initial position of your teeth and how much alteration of their current position is desired.
Some people complete the Invisalign treatment much sooner than one year, perhaps even if half that amount of time. Typically the treatment with Invisalign braces will be completed in a significantly shorter amount of time than traditional braces.
Stuart Dentist Invisalign Tips: Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces
Another drawback of traditional braces is the need to visit your orthodontist every month and a half to have the wires on your braces tightened.
This is not necessary with Invisalign, and since you change your trays ever two weeks your teeth undergo more continuous realignment in smaller increments than with wire braces, and thus there is typically less pain associated with Invisalign as the movement is more gradual.
